New (for me) Beading Techniques

After going through (most of) the Bead Soup blogs, I was struck by the large number of seed bead artists are out there.  I know this shouldn't surprise me, but I am, at heart, a wire and metal gal, and don't do a whole lot with seed beads, except to use them as accents in my wire and metal pieces.

I also love to fuse glass in my kiln, but, to me, there seems to be a limited amount of things I can do with my glass 'globs' once they are cooked.

Then I toured the blogs and realized that I can use seed beads to make bezels for my 'globs'.  Inspiration!  A light turned on in my brain, and I decided to teach myself how do do them.

I downloaded a great tutorial from Fusion Beads and was on my way!  So...here is a picture of what I've been working on with my newly learned skill:

I've got lots of beads and glass to work with, and I'm excited to see what else I can learn - bead embroidering, for instance...

Now, have you had a chance to check out "Grateful Living" yet?  Nellie Wortman of Early Morning Thoughts is today's contributor, and she wrote a beautiful piece speaking about being an optimist - well worth the read!

Turns out my Bead Soup partner is a heck of a seed beader, and she impressed me with her designs! When I first started making jewelry, I bought a bunch of seed beads b/c I thought it would be "fun" to try. Turns out that I do not have the patience! So I did the opposite of what you are doing....after seeing all of the gorgeous seed bead designs, I am selling all of my seed beads! HA! I can't do them justice, so why bother? Your bezels look great though!!

Molly, is there a thing you can't teach yourself?? I am SO impressed. After taking a single seed-bead related class this year, I realize just how difficult working with seed beads can be...it just didn't seem to come naturally for me. So to see not just one but several bezels (and I want to see more pictures!) here, I am so amazed! I think you've found your new niche!! I really think you'll do wonders pursuing this medium - your pendants are really beautiful.

Wow, great job Molly, you talented thing you. I too was struck with how many talented ladies use seed beads, which I don't do. What patience, and now you!! Way to go, and totally impressed. Hugs, Riki

It is fun to cross over and mix among all the various techniques!! I started metalsmithing and fabrication many years ago and now am primarily focused on expanding in different kinds of beading techniques...watch out, someday you may find yourself totally hooded on all those cute little beads ;)
