Calm in the Chaos...

I was just reading Deborah Truesdale's latest blog entry (Little Art Room In Back), and it got me thinking about my own life and how it can so easily get bogged down with the woes of the world. Most of my conversations these days tend to end with some version of: "Well, things should start to get better after the election".

Really...am I so naive as to think that an election, especially this election, will magically fix what is wrong with our country? There is so much to be done to cure what ails us, the reality is that there is no way that the election will fix it. I think if I spend too much time thinking about it, I could become paralyzed with indecision about what I should do next - how can I fix it enough to be satisfied?

Well, I don't know about you, but I am exhausted with just thinking about the enormity of it all.

I think that in the middle of all of the chaos I have forgotten to spend time in my own backyard. I have forgotten to spend time with the beauty of the yellow lantanas that are taking over my back porch. I have forgotten to laugh at my son's goofy Freshman boy humor. I have forgotten to stand in awe of the sunset tonight that was made of colors we haven't even thought of yet. Above all, I have forgotten to take inventory of the seemingly small joys that make up my life and to be thankful for them.

Hmmmmm......

So I will take this opportunity to quietly sit and contemplate what is really important to me: my faith, my family, my friends - in essence, my life. Trite, I know, but true nonetheless.

Without doubt we will make it through this season. What will we look like when it is over? That's a great question, and one I'm not prepared to even think about, let alone answer. We will be changed - no doubt about that.

And change is good.

In the meantime, I...will ...just...breathe...

Molly, I believe when we realize that our Lord is the creator of all things, good and evil, we will have peace~knowing that He works all things together, in His time, for His purposes. This is a peace we cannot buy or have not earned, but receive by grace.
Hugs my friend~

Molly, this is very inspiring note you wrote and it is hard to 'forget' to see the little things that make us happy. I try to not listen too much about all of the problems-it is hard not to though, and I avoid the news. I know it may be wrong, but I only do what I can do to help and hope that will be enough. HUGS to you,
Tami

I wish the news would stop reporting on the campaign till its time to vote...I've gotten to the point I hate the news...which in itself is a good thing, I spend much more time in my garden and amongst the really important things, like my family...you're right, of course...the election really won't change anything, but we'll all still be here muddling through! Congratulations on winning Post of the Day from David McMahon at Authorblog. Well deserved.

I stumbled upon your blog a little while ago and am so happy that I did! I really know what you mean in this post. I feel the same way. Isn't it good to know that no matter what the future holds, God holds us in his loving arms?

Your work is beautiful... I'm off to view your etsy shop now!

Wow! with a view like that I would be hard put to even think about the rest of the world, but I am with you in that it is hard not to worry and wonder what, if anything [apart from our vote, and here in England it is a choice between a rock and a hard place] we can do to make things better.

We have become used to having what we want when we want it, and pay later...well later is here, and we are paying. Sadly it will be us ordinary folk who take the bad medicine, and the ones who got us here will have the candy.

From one Molly to another, cheer up, enjoy natures bounty and take big breaths.

Congrats on making David's POTD! I think we here in Canada feel the same way - we just elected another (yet stronger) minority govt and breathe is really all we can do right now.
