Welcome to the Creating With Cabochons Blog Hop

Sally Russick of The Studio Sublime is hosting a fantastic hop today:

This challenge was a great way to motivate myself to use some of my fused glass cabochons that I absolutely love to make in my kiln but always make more of than I could ever use in a million years.

The first pendant I made using a fun patterned pink cab with fuchsia and purple beads, finishing up with a leather backing and some decorative beading:

The second pendant was made using a dichroic "quilted" fused cab (a cab that I made fusing chips of a whole lot of different dichroic colors & patterns together):

I plan to make a cool beaded Kumihimo rope to hang this one on.

The third pendant is also from a fused glass cab that I did some bead embroidery around along with a (very) little dimensional beadwork:

The last one is a new technique I tried for this challenge - freeform peyote:

This technique is ALL about dimension, and is also all about 'winging it', so to speak.  I had a general plan for the colors, but the shape builds on itself in a crazy kind of way as you bead around larger beads and create bridges here and there:

The bracelet closes with a little brass button:

This cab always looked a bit like an eye to me, so I created a kind of eyelid to curve over one side and add some movement and interest to the design:

All in all, freeform peyote is a cool new way to make beaded jewelry, but it takes a REALLY long time to finish a piece.  In fact, my original plan had been to have this be about another inch wide, but it felt finished, so I stopped. :)

Please take some time to check out these other amazing artists and their creations - you will be floored looking at all the beautiful pieces of jewelry!

I knew when I joined this hop I was going to be wowed by the bead embroidery - and here I am , in WOW mode! These are amazing! The third necklace - with all the beautiful blues - has the coolest pattern, I really love this! I cannot even imagine designing the bracelet in my head, much less creating it! It is fabulous!

Each of your beaded cabs is gorgeous. The cab on your freeform peyote indeed looks like an eye, maybe a dragon eye peaking out from being buried in a pile of sparkling treasure. I love freeform peyote, you just have to trust its going to work. Yours turned out wonderfully.

Beautiful pieces Molly, I really like the free form bracelet and I agree the cab does look like an eye I thought that before I read your comment.

I love all the pendants especially the last blue one. It reminds me of a peacock feather. Your freeform is great too it's just you chose my favorite colors to make the pendants in.
